Maybe when EDP setup could not find the license file, it is located in that alternative folder. Still, it doesn't explain why it cannot file previous installations.C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Local\PrestoSoft\ExamDiff Pro

I have an entry in HKLM but not in HKCU.psguru wrote: Sat Feb 01, 2025 10:35 am
Please check the Registry keys mentioned above: if there is a bug, it would help us fix it. On the other hand, this should not prevent you from using version 16: after all, you can always uninstall previous versions using Apps and Features. Still, we would definitely like to get to the bottom of the issue.

More precisely I only have an entry in HKLM under "Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall".psguru wrote: Sat Feb 01, 2025 10:35 am

Re: Ver 16 install
Please try the latest build (16.0.0.3) - we made some installer fixes there.

Re: Ver 16 install

Re: Ver 16 install
"password.bin" in the old V15 install directory.
Move that to the V16 install directory did the trick for me.

Re: Ver 16 install
Hmm, so during the installation, did you see a screen confirming that you still had a valid license? If so, password.bin file should have been copied to the new installation folder by the setup.

Re: Ver 16 install
Hi psguru,
Yes, I did see a screen confirming a valid licence.
However, the password.bin file was not transferred to the V16 directory. Had to do it manually.
Cheers,
Leslie

Re: Ver 16 install
Thanks. Hmm, it should've been. We are going to add more logging to the installer, to see why the file was not copied.

FYI, the installer creates a setup log file in your %temp% folder, like Setup Log [timestamp] [number].txt. If you find it, please attach here.

Re: Ver 16 install
Thanks! The log shows that the previous password file (ver. 15) was found but, according to you, was not copied to the new folder. As I said earlier, we added some additional logging to the upcoming build; perhaps that will clarify the reason in future.

Re: Ver 16 install
By mistake I went with the default and installed the latest version in a different directory from my standard.
Result: unregistered.
I repeated the procedure with "log=setup.txt" and, voilà, everything was fine and the licence was found...
Murpy strikes again.
