Jars display changed but no differences found

Post by gsnyder »

Running ExamDiffPro: 4.0.2.1
When examining two .ear files, containing multiple .jar files, a couple of the .jars show up as changed.
However if you click on them for further comparison, ExamDiffPro displays the message box that the directories are identical.

Type of file comparison options are:
Consider files with same size and timestamp identical.
Consider files with different sizes different.
I have also tried with the Perform full file size comparison with the same results.

Attached screenshot is example of issue for file config.jar.

Any guidance on this issue is appreciated.

Could you upload your .ear files here, or, if they are too large, make them available somewhere else (there are plenty of free file hosting services) so that we could analyze them?

To me, it looks as if the timestamps are NOT identical (though it is hard to recognize on the low quality screenshot - using jpg is not good, and reducing size is also a bad idea ...)

What is your setting for directory comparison? Recursive, or only to obtain status or not at all?

The timestamps are not identical. But neither are any of the other timestamps since all files have the date of the build.
And most of the files indicate Same.
While the Directory Comparison option does state "consider files with the same size and timestamp" identical, this is not the same as the unchecked option "Consider files with different timestamps different".

The Recursive Comparison option is: Compare subdirectories recursively.

If the files (jars) showing "changed" (but not really) are extracted and compared with ExamDiffPro they compare as identical.

In regards to uploading the files in question, I'm not able to do that to a public site since these are corporate applications.

Thanks for your reply.

Can you send your files directly to us (examdiffpro [at] prestosoft [dot] com)?

Files (about 8mb apiece) sent as attachments to 2 emails.
Please let me know if you receive.

Thanks.

The files were too big for that account. I just sent you a PM with alternative addresses.

The problem described here was fixed in 4.5 (now in Beta). The OP was using 4.0.
