when this installs on x64 version of windows, everything works but the shell extensions. can this be fixed or manually added?

If you use AMD-64, we have a build of the Shell extension DLL for it. The DLL is used by some of our clients but we don't ship it yet with ExamDiff Pro. The file can be downloaded at http://www.prestosoft.com/download/EDPShell64.zip . Please follow the instructions in the zip file.
