CRC calculation.

Post by clwilson »

I have found two problems with the CRC calculation in the 3.2c release.
1.)Even though files are listed as the "Same" in the directory compare the CRCs seem to be caluclated seperately. That is they are calculated twice. If there are not many files it doesn't matter but if you have thousands of files on networked drives it takes a lot of time.
2.)I have SETI running in the background and it is set to priority 4. It seems to be higher priority than the CRC thread and blocks it's action. Perhaps one needs to have the option to adjust the priority of the thread or at least mention the potential problem in the documentation.

1) Actually, it doesn't work the way you described. CRCs are only calculated once per comparison. So if all files are present in both directories, and you use "Consider files with different CRCs different" option, the thread will have nothing to do, and it will end very quickly (after verifying that all CRCs are indeed calculated).

2) Good point. The latest build of 3.2c has an option to change the thread priority (Options | Display | Dir Columns).
