Comparing two directories with "use plugins" unchecked and "always treat .pdf files as binary" I see in the status bar the caption "Executing plugin 'PDF to text'" etc.
Who asked for that?

Is "Use Plug-ins" unchecked for files or directories?

"Use Plug-ins" is checked for files and unchecked for directories.

Yes, it looks like a bug. We'll take a closer look at this.
