Well, yes, in a sense .odt files are indeed text files.
Why EDP, by default and without any plugin, tries to compare them as "text" files?

Because they typically do not have enough "odd" characters to consider it binary using the EDPro heuristics.

Well, a bit surprising since those files are zipped, but your explication makes sense.
I'll put .odt in the "always treat these files as binary" list.
