Comparing for Differences...

Post by nnps »

I work for a school district and compare differences in the text files
that are sent to me nightly for (adds, deletes, changes in address, etc...)

I am running into a problem where I am trying to compare a change in
a particular field. I have it set up right now to ignore characters before
column 694 and after 727 to see what changes occured during the course of
the day in these fields. 95% of the time it does great in pointing out
the differences. I am running into instances where there is a difference
in these fields BUT it is two different students that it is trying to compare.

This gives me a false sense of something occuring in that student record.
The unique thing about each of these students is thier student ID in fields
77-82. I can find adds and deletes by ignoring everything before 77 and
after 82.

How can I get the correct student compared when it does not know the
unique identifier for each student.

Can, in the future, maybe you compare two sets of information within one
filter. Example - Compare everything
between (77 and 82) AND (694 and 727)

Maybe there is already a way to do this, but I am baffled?

BTW - GREAT PRODUCT AND KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!

Could you provide an example of what's happening and what you expect to happen? (Please use a private message to send your example.)
