.hta fiiles identified as binary

Post by rickier55 »

I'm trying to compare two .hta extension text files. I have compared them in the past, but they are now being reported as binary. But I've looked at them in text editor and they look fine. I have other .hta's in the same package that are working fine and these two used to work.

Any suggestion on what has caused them to be treated as binary now?

Thanks
Rick

Hard to tell without looking at the file. Your file may have a number of non-ASCII characters enough to be considered binary. Could you attach a sample here?

I had the opposite problem: .exe files opened as text.
A bit surprising, but easily solved by adding *.exe to "always treat these files as binary".

Before you wonder: probably those files were not true windows executables but exec for a different O.S.; I don't remember exactly.
