The latest build of 3.4 Beta contains new options: to save a file directly, and to provide more ways to save backups. See them under Options | File Editing.

The result is the same. (backup files are probably just deleted after saving using this option) True. The actual culprit is not backup files but the fact that when a file is saved, it is first written to a temp file, then the temp file replaced the original file. Regarding memory consumption: if you use full (binary) file comparison (see Options | Dir Comparison), and you have very large files in your directories, at some point the program may exhaust virtual memory on your machine. The solution is not to use full file comparison -- instead use timestamps, s...

When I switch Use View Filter to "all" in the directory comparison and then do a "Compare Matched", the "Use View Filter" is set to "all" for the file as well. ==> for me, it looks like the "Use View Filter" setting for the file comparison follows t...

I wish there were two separate settings - one for folders, one for files (or three: one more for binary file comparison). Actually, there are already two separate view filters: one for file comparison and another -- for directory comparison. I'm not sure what the problem is. Also, in the startup di...

Well, it's unlikely that a language would use Unicode characters in its syntax. Same goes for language file extensions.
