Re: Sorry, but...

*.dmp?
I searched for *minidump*.*!

I'll repeat the search, sorry.

Poltergeist

I told you I saw some odd things.
Well, maybe now I have something that seems "solid" (more or less  ).
The algorithm is "patience"

Sorry, but...

EDP 12.0.0.13 64 I was comparing a couple of text files using manual sych and editing them when EDP crashed. I have no idea on how to reproduce the problem so this is food for another day. I got the usual  dialog asking to send you some data and the minidump. In that system I have a "stan...

Re: Other crashes

As always, a big thank you. :D

N.B. Of course I already tried a scan of the disk (not with windows search!) searching for "minidump" with no results.

Other crashes

I was comparing a couple of moderately sized .zip files (600 kb) when I saw that the plugins were disabled and the dialog was saying: "Comparing files as hex strings". Since that was not what I needed I clicked "cancel". Crash! I tried again 4 or 5 times in a row and I always got...

Re: Crashes

Maybe the problem is correlated with some other option because it's very repeatable.
Here attached you can find my options.

Re: Crashes

Could you please provide a pair of sample files?
It seems that any (text) file does the trick.
what exact algorithm should I use
As I wrote: Myers, Minimal, Patience or Histogram. Make your choice. :(
did you enable diff block optimization
It doesn't matter.

Crashes

If I remove "ingnore Linebreak styles" then EDP crashes if the algoritm is different from "Classic", i.e. for Myers, Minimal, Patience and Histogram. This happens with both 32 and 64 bits versions. I don't know if it matters: the files I used were DOS terminated (CR-LF). Then I h...

Re: Algorithms

Sorry, there was a misunderstanding. I wasn't thinking about the "tools" menu and even less about a command line switch. I was thinking about a keyboard shortcut in the GUI to switch rapidly from one algorithm to the other so as to see which one works better in each specific case. A key co...

Algorithms

Since you added the possibility to change the diff algorithm, I tried them. Depending on the data and on what I was triyng to do, sometimes an algorithm fits well, sometimes another does. Could it be possible to have a shortcut so as to compare easily the results of each algorithm by switching it wi...

Re: Binary comparison before text comparison

If you select "always treat TXT files as text" then obviously EDP compares them as text and, if you select ignore all white spaces, the two files are detected as equal even if binarily different. If you want to perform (also) a binary comparison you can do many things. I suggest to start b...

Re: Saving a difference to a text file

The most difficult aspect here is that the line break I'm trying to add is above the folder path an not below. The simpleat idea could be asking the editor to replace "C:\Windows\" with (CR-LF)"C:\Windows\", i.e. put the line break before the next path instead of at the (much mo...

Ignore columns

Today I had to exploit the new "Ignore columns" option.
Great! :!:
Thank you.
